Indianapolis to Louisville is a two-hour drive south on I-65. The Derby itself is the first Saturday in May, with Oaks Day the Friday before and Kentucky Derby Festival events all week leading up. We run a lot of Derby weekend trips out of Indianapolis: groups staying at downtown Louisville hotels who want a chauffeur for Saturday, families heading down for the day, and corporate groups doing Friday-night dinner reservations and Saturday at the track.

If you’re going for Derby day, book the chauffeur early. Louisville hotel rates triple Derby week and so does the demand for chauffeur services in the region. We have a hard limit on how many vehicles we can commit to that Saturday, and we typically fill those slots by late March. Book your transportation when you book your hotel, not the week before.

For Derby weekend specifically, we recommend round-trip: down Friday afternoon, back Sunday morning. The chauffeur stays with you through the weekend, parked nearby. We can also handle a Saturday-only round trip if you’d rather stay in Indianapolis, leave at 8 a.m., be at Churchill Downs by 11 for the early races, and return after the main race. That’s a long day in the car but it’s done it more than once.

Why a chauffeur on Derby weekend

Parking around Churchill Downs is brutal Derby week. Even the satellite lots fill by mid-morning, and the walk in heat or rain is not a memory you want from the day. A chauffeur drops you at the closest gate Churchill Downs allows, then comes back when you’re done. You skip the lot fees, you skip the walk in fancy shoes, and you avoid the rideshare surge at the end of the day.

The other reason is the drinks. Derby is a long drinking day for a lot of people, and the trip back to Louisville or Indianapolis is not somewhere you want to be making decisions about driving. A chauffeur removes that question entirely.
